Christmas Party

We attended two Christmas parties this weekend. Saturday was the big one for my company at the Hyatt downtown. Beth and Justin watched Dayla for us so we could make it a date. The night was a little shorter than usual since Dayla was being fussy but we still had a great time.

On Sunday we had our annual Young Married's Bible Study Christmas Party. There were fewer couples than last year since some people moved out of state but there were certainly a lot more babies.

Click Here to see a gallery of pictures from that night.

This is our favorite picture. Larry, the host of the party, had a mustache that Dayla was endlessly fascinated by.

Ooops! Thanksgiving got skipped!

We had such a great Thanksgiving trip up to Paso Robles and then Carmel, and we forgot to post some pictures for you! Dayla was such a champ being away from home for 8 days, praise God! Dayla also got to meet all of her aunts, uncles and cousins on the Senasac side of the family for the first time. It was so much fun. Every year I always feel like I want to spend more time with my family and leave the holiday a little sad. Then I remind myself how blessed I am that I have such a fun family. :) You can check out how big our group has gotten below.

December Photo Project (Days 1-5)

A friend of a friend started a daily blog posting they are calling the December Photo Project. Basically you post a picture each day in December. It needs to be a picture you took that day that shows a little piece of your life. Taking a lot of pictures isn't a problem for us so we figured we would join (albeit a little late).

As a way of catching up here are the pictures for Dec. 1 - 5 posted all at once. We will make every effort to post a new picture each day. Most of them will probably be of Dayla but we'll see if we can be a bit more creative.

Dec. 1 - A nice portrait of Ginette in front of our apartment.

Dec. 2 - A outtake from the Christmas party pictures. Notice who isn't crying? Hmmmm.

Dec. 3 - Someone learned a new trick!

Dec. 4 - Dayla and Ginette tried out the baby backpack for the first time to great success.

Dec. 5 - Dayla chillin' in her Bumbo.

December Photo Project - Day 6

We actually bought a Christmas tree this year! Since I am not working in retail this year, I am definitely appreciating the holidays a lot more. Here are a few of my favorite and sentimental ornaments/Christmas decorations that I will be excited to share with Dayla as she gets older.

1. I grew up with this very funky looking nativity scene that was hand made in Mexico. I always loved it and looked forward to carefully setting it under the tree every year. A couple of years ago my mom gifted it to me and I was overjoyed.

2. A caterpillar from our trip to the Buchart Gardens this year. One of our adventures on our super fun "Babymoon".

3. A s'more. It makes me laugh.

4. The Tuck Box Inn in Carmel. Our second vacation this year...and a symbol of our celebration of Thanksgiving that we do with my family every year.

5. Starbucks coffee cup. I am celebrating my 3rd year with Starbucks this December! ( I have also had a lot of coffee on the brain, as my time of "stay-at-home-mom" is coming to a close.)

6. My favorite ornament growing up. I took special care every year to make sure it hung by a lot of lights. Still now it is the first ornament I will place on the tree every year.

December Photo Project - Day 8

We had a Christmas dinner/hang out time with friends today. There was tons of food and plenty of babies, Wii, and Settlers of Catan.

The gang.

I tried to hold both Dayla and Haley but I kept leaning over to one side. I wonder why.

December Photo Project - Day 12

Dayla had her 4 month check up today. She is 13 pounds 12 oz. and 25 1/2 " long. For weight she is in the 55% and height she is in the 85%. So she is a long and lean girl! She also got 5 shots....so she had a little bit of a rough night tonight.

Dayla doesn't like shots....

Dayla's early morning feet....I tell you she kicked me a lot in my tummy...looks like she is still kicking at night!

December Photo Project - Day 13

I didn't actually take a picture on December 13th. However I can't let a day pass without posting something. This is a picture I took at work of a co-worker's pet. She is a Newfoundland/St. Bernard mix.

December Photo Project - Day 14

Dayla's friend Haley came over to play. They are still only mildy aware of each other's existence at this point.

Here they are chilling on the couch.

While Haley drank her bottle Dayla hung out with Dad in her Bumbo. She is getting very used to having a camera pointed at her and doesn't seem to mind me putting the wide angle lens 10 inches from her face.

December Photo Project - Day 16 and 17

For all you who are actually checking our site everyday, I am sorry we didn't post yesterday. I did take pictures of Dayla yesterday and just forgot to post them! First, here is Dayla wearing these things called "baby legs". I love these things...they are like baby leg-warmers. I mean who didn't love their leg warmers? I got gifted a bunch of 3-6 month dresses, so these will keep little Dayla's legs warm while she wears her dresses during winter. :)

And a picture Daniel took of me in the car tonight ...

December Photo Project - Day 18

Inspired by this article on how to Create Your Own Bokeh I made a cross filter to fit on my 50mm 1.8. This is a picture of the christmas lights on our balcony.

Dayla Turns 4 Months Old Today!

It has been so fun watching Dayla grow these past 4 months and I can't wait to see how she will continue to grow into a little girl. Below are the comparison pictures from the past 4 months, but first:

Some new feats since month 3...

  • Making eye contact with you and smiling.
  • Laughing...not just when you are extra silly, but the other morning Daniel and I heard her laughing in her crib all by herself.
  • Rolling like a roley-poley. She can roll from her stomach to her back and her back to her stomach. Although I have noticed that she can only roll to the right. Hmm...
  • Grabbing items and holding on for dear life.
  • Not only pushing herself up when she is on her stomach, but can look all around when she's there.
  • Putting everything in her mouth
  • Drooling even more! If I put her in her Bumbo chair, there will literally be a pool of drool about 1/2 inch deep to the side of it in about 3 minutes! (she leans to the right in her chair too).

One Month

Two Months (look hard, see I'm a little longer!)

Three Months (a little chubbier...)

Four Months (now I am even longer and I can roll!)

December Photo Project - Day 21 and 22

We are up in Whittier hanging out with my family until Christmas. Here are a few pictures from today.

December Photo Project - Day 23

Dayla's grandpa figured out that her bumbo fit perfectly on the lazy susan we use for Scrabble. Dayla had a great time going for a spin.

We put Dayla into the jump swing for the first time. She wasn't sure what to make of it at first but quickly caught on. She stayed it in it for a solid 30 minutes smiling away and turning around in circles.

Tough Week

We had a tough week.

Ginette went back to work after a 4-month hiatus and we took Dayla to day care for the first time. On top of that Ginette got a nasty stomach flu on Christmas Eve which she is just recovering from. We have some Christmas pictures to post but have been neglecting the blog because of the busy week. To hold you over here is a close-up of Dayla I took tonight.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

This last week was rough due to a persistant stomach flu....but Dayla's first Christmas was a lot of fun. We can't fly by the holiday without posting some pictures! Christmas Eve was spent appreciating the fact that we don't have a "White Christmas" in southern California. Dayla went in the pool for the first time. After about 10 minutes she figured out how to splash. Due to the fact that she was only splashing herself, she both loved and hated this experience. Christmas Day felt less eventful since after about 10 minutes Dayla was ready for her nap. Oh well. We did snap a couple pics though...
