Goodbye to the Higgins' Family

Our good friends Beth, Justin, and Haley Higgins are moving to Austria in a few weeks to do missionary work. They have been an integral part of our Young Marrieds bible study as well as close friends and we are really going to miss them. Thanks to the the miracle of blogs, Skype, and cheap international air travel this won't be goodbye forever.

As a farewell, there was a "Goodbye Higgins' Family" get together on Saturday. Here are a few pictures I took of the couples (and babies) you have seen in this blog over the last year.

Ben, Juli, and Baby Eleanor

Jeff, Kristy, and Baby Tabitha

Julie, Rob, and Baby Kaitlin

Michelle, Glen, and mini-Glen... I mean Ethan

At the insistence of the girls, we also took a "baby legs" picture. As you may have seen in other pictures here, baby legs are those 80's-style legwarmers you put on babies (for some reason).

The Good Laugh

Dayla has two laughs. The one we get most of the time is her mildly amused chuckle whenever we do something silly or play peekabo. Very occasionally she has a serious case of the giggles and belts out this deep belly laugh. It only lasts a few seconds and you just can't help but smile.

Check out the videos below for a couple samples.

Saying Goodbye

I had to say goodbye twice this week. First to my job with Starbucks and to all my truly amazing employees last Friday (yep I did it...I am stay at home mom now!). Second to my very good friend Beth and family as they venture on to Austria for a 3 year mission committment.

I don't know if it is age, wisdom or just a different time in life, but saying these goodbyes were different then any goodbye I have ever said before. I think every time that I have said goodbye to people in the past and had big life changes I was scared or nervous for what the future was going to bring. Going to college, getting married, friends moving away, having a baby. This is the first time I have ever had to say goodbye where I felt an incredible sense of joy and peace about it. Don't get me wrong, the people I had to bid adieu to were all incredible people who I will miss dearly. My heart aches incredibly in loss. However, I also have such a feeling that God's hand is in it all.

Higgins, I will miss you all so much. Thank you for your amazing friendship. For your generosity, compassion, encourgament and love. But more importantly, thank you for leaving... for listening to your heart and being warriors for God. Your courage and heart is so admirable.

To all my employees and customers at Starbucks, you have taught me so much. Thank you for being such a wonderful part of my life. I enjoyed working everyday becuase of people like you and I can't thank you enough for the fond memories I will always have of that job. Now I get to start and new exciting phase in my life as a stay-at-home-mom. Praise God and his glory for making that a possibility. I am so excited for the new challenge and blessing it will be.

I guess, sometimes, there is good in goodbyes.

Is 6 months here already?

Can't believe that she is already a half of a year! I know everyone tells you it goes by fast, but you really can't prepare yourself for it. Okay, onto the good stuff.

New stuff Miss Dayla can do:

  • She not only holds the bottle by herself, but can take it out of her mouth, check how much is left and then puts it back. This is pretty funny to watch. Sometimes, if I leave a burp cloth next to her, she will even put down the bottle and then grab the cloth to chew on (thus wiping her face!). She is very self sufficient already!
  • Scoots herself to the nearest toy. She is not crawling yet, but she definitely can get around!
  • She just started to eat solid foods! The first week was not actually eating it (as I am sure most of you know) but now she is on a roll. So far, she likes bananas, sweet potato, and oatmeal. She is not sure how she feels about peaches yet. Tart I think. Her eyes got really wide and her mouth puckered up. Lastly, much to her parent's surprise, she hates avocado!
  • Has mastered pulling off her socks and shoes. I am bummed cause I have a cute selection of shoes she just started fitting, but they only lasted about a week before they started to come off.
  • Can say a very audible "ba". If you say it back she will even hold a whole conversation with you...but the only word exchanged will be "ba".
  • Got two teeth! (in center bottom)

    Likes:

  • Other people and being outdoors. Social butterfly already.
  • Peek a Boo
  • Any toy that squeaks ( I have contemplated using our PETCO discount to get her dog toys).
  • Her toy train and light table thingy (they both make a lot of noise)
  • Putting everything in her mouth...even things that are much too large to fit.
  • Baby Neptune DVD (a lifesaver on the teething days when she is otherwise inconsolable)

    Dislikes:

  • Avocado
  • Her plug/binky/pacifier...whatever you call it, she is over it.
  • Being on her back (unless she is eating)
  • Being in one place too long. Again, social butterfly.

One Month (One you haven't seen yet! Check out how different she is vs. now.)

Cousin James Comes to Visit

My mom, sister Kristy, and nephew James came down from L.A. today for a quick visit. Dayla and James are really starting to enjoy playing together. Here are a few pictures.
