On Friday Dayla came home and announced that she was going to be “Star Student” at school for the next week.
Star Student consists of getting to lead the line, dismiss the tables, walk people to the office, and many other responsibilities the kids get to be in charge of for the week. The highlight of Star Student for most the kids though is getting to take home Buster the bear for the weekend .
Buster comes with a list of instructions (he is allergic to water for example) and a journal. The student and Buster get to hang out over the weekend and then the student is to write in the journal about all the adventures they took and all the things they did together.
Don’t forget to take pictures too. Lots of pictures.
We didn’t really have an adventure packed weekend planned, but Dayla, determined not to be the most boring kid in class, came up with her own adventures. First on the list was taking a big box we had in the garage and building a rocket ship.
Had I suggested this activity to Dayla on any normal day, she would have looked at me like I was an alien…but this time it was her idea…and Buster was watching. So she and Buster (and Sebastian on and off) worked on the rocket ship from 1pm until the sun set.
By sunset we were out front and Adalee (our neighbor) wanted to come over and see what Dayla and Sebastian were working so hard on.
Adalee’s younger sister Isabelle wanted to see too.
And I just got to keep snapping pictures whenever asked to.
Here were some of other adventures we had with Buster:
Of course now I want to email Dayla’s teacher and see if Buster can come over next weekend too?!
