As a Catholic I was baptized. As a Christian we dedicate our children to the Lord.
Really, for me anyway, the idea is to stand before a group of peers and the Lord and promise to do your best….to promise to teach your children about God….to share your faith with them….and pray for them along the way.
This was totally unplanned and completely last minute. I would like to say that we prayed and planned this dedication, but the truth is we didn’t even know we were going to stand up and do it until a week before. So much like the life of a third child….it was low-key. No party. No commotion. Just us standing before the Lord and promising to remember and honor this verse from Deuteronomy chapter 6.
“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up…”
And so that is what we did today. We stood before the Lord and promised. We love you little August. We don’t know if you will accept and know the Lord, but we will promise to teach you all we know… we promise to pray that God will fill in all the gaps….and we will pray that has a measure of faith just for you.
